San Xotano is a beautiful country house dating back to the 16th century which is set amid a 100 hectare estate in Majorca´s unspoilt traditional countryside. Don Pedro Ramonell´s family has farmed the land for eight generations until ten years ago when he converted his home to this charming small hotel while retaining the original features of beamed ceilings, flagstone floors, exposed stone walls, antique furniture and family heirlooms.
Don Pedro still lives in the hotel. He is a great character and ensures that everything runs smoothly. His great passion is for breeding Spanish Arab stallions which he also makes available for guests to ride.
The old stables and barns of the house are now stylish bedrooms. Animal troughs, old beams and farming equipment have been left in situ. All the rooms are different - some with bare stone walls, some whitewashed in typical Mallorcan style. All come well equipped with air conditioning, hairdryer, safety deposit box, satellite TV, minibar and a spacious bathroom. Most rooms have private terraces with spectacular views.
The outdoor swimming pool and paddling pool for the children are set amid the beautiful gardens filled with tropical plants, prickly pear cacti and birdsong. Leisure activities offered include a small crazy golf course, cycle ride around the almond and olive groves, tennis in nearby Pina or a relaxing massage or reflexology session. Riding lessons are available at the excellent school. San Xotano has a number of traditional traps on which you can enjoy a romantic tour around the local villages. There are numerous golf courses nearby and sightseers and shopaholics are well catered for with the capital Palma only a 30 minute drive away.
Breakfast and dinner are served in the huge old beamed bodega, where the vast barrels, original fireplace and copper plans are still in place. A French chef puts together a different set menu every day or the a la carte choice offers a selection of Mediterranean and Spanish cuisine.
After dinner you can sit in the cosy old kitchen (beside a roaring fire in the colder months) with a glass of Son Xotano´s own Carob liqueur or relax in the large elegant salon,
